Best Camping in Manitoba: Top 8 Manitoba Campgrounds

For some, camping is an annual summer activity – something you get to look forward to as soon as the days start getting longer and the weather starts getting warmer. But not everyone has been camping or even knows where to start when planning a camping trip.

We researched the top 8 campsites in Manitoba, so whether you’re a rookie camper or just want to try somewhere new this summer, this list has got you covered to find the best camping in Manitoba.

Manitoba Campgrounds

1. OTTER FALLS CAMPGROUND

If you are an adventurer, Otter Falls Campground is a must for your camping trip this summer! Not only are you on the water, which is perfect for swimming, canoeing and kayaking, but you will also be in the Whiteshell Provincial Park which is home to some of the best hiking trails Manitoba has to offer.

Another huge advantage of staying here is the grill close by at the Otter Falls Resort, just in case you don’t feel like cooking one night. You are sure to enjoy your time in nature when you camp at Otter Falls.

2. WASAGAMING CAMPGROUND – RIDING MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK

Beauty, luxury, exciting. These are just a few of the words that come to mind when we think of Wasagaming Campground, located in Riding Mountain National Park. If you choose to camp here, you’re only steps away from the beautiful Clear Lake beach. If you’re anything like us, you won’t be able to wait to run into this gorgeous water.

On top of this, you will also have access to electricity, water and sewer service. Camping can be super rustic, which can sometimes be a deterrent for people. Luckily, that’s not the case with the Wasagaming campsites as most of them have access to these amenities.

If you’re the type of person who likes to stay busy, that won’t be a problem with this campsite. The town of Wasagaming has an assortment of activities for you to do! Spend your time at the beach or head into town and enjoy the restaurants, shopping, golf, horseback riding and museums that it has to offer.

3. GRAND BEACH CAMPGROUND

Another well-known and well-visited Manitoba campground is Grand Beach Provincial Park. The beach is located in the park and it’s about a 75-minute drive from Winnipeg. Families, couples and teens have been coming to this campground since the 1900s and it still has something for all ages to enjoy today.

If you love the beach and warm water, or if you’re more interested in spending time on dry land hiking, this campsite has both options easily accessible to you. The grounds have 350 sites and they are sectioned off into 17 different bays. There are even three alcohol-free designated sites if that is important and necessary to your comfort. You’ll find a mix of electric and regular sites, so consider that while booking as well.

If you’re still on the fence about the whole overnight camping experience, you can go visit Grand Beach for a day trip, spend time in the water and take in all the scenery to get a feel for what an overnight trip might look like, before committing to it.

4. FALCON LAKE CAMPGROUND

Falcon Lake – one of the most popular campgrounds that Manitoba has to offer. You can’t go wrong when choosing to stay at the Falcon Lake Campground. There are two separate sites: the Beach Campground and the Lakeside Campground. Whichever one you choose, you won’t be disappointed.

The Beach Campground is larger with 234 sites. It’s located between the amenities of the small resort town and beach area.

The Lakeside Campground has a great beach area, is 1.5km from the small resort town and has 155 sites. It is slightly closer to the Trans-Canada Highway, so if you are a light sleeper, this might not be the most optimal site for you to stay at.

Both sites have access to water, sewer and electricity. The town Falcon Lake is nearby as well if you want to spend some time shopping, eating or golfing.

5. TULABI FALLS CAMPGROUND – BACKCOUNTRY CAMPING MANITOBA

If you are the self-sufficient type, looking to try a more backcountry camping-inspired site in Manitoba, the Tulabi Falls should be on your radar. This stunning campsite is not the full-on backcountry camping experience that more seasoned camping enthusiasts may want to take on, but if you’re looking for something a bit more adventurous and rustic, this site is perfect for you.

The campgrounds have water and some have electricity, which makes it more of a contemporary campsite. You also have a great chance of seeing wildlife while you camp here and many love to take advantage of the lakes and rivers and do some fishing.

If you’re looking for views, this campground has them. While being engulfed in the woods and high trees, you also will get breathtaking views of Tulabi Falls. Cliff climbing and jumping is also a favourite activity which if you come to Tulabi Falls, you should take part in, as safely as possible.

6. HECLA CAMPGROUND

When you think of taking a trip to an island you probably don’t think of Manitoba campsites. That’s part of what makes Hecla Campground so special. Located on an island, you get to take in what they call “an intriguing mosaic of island spirits.”

This campground is filled with history, culture and they even have a heritage museum on site. You will be surrounded by beautiful, scenic nature while also having the small town nearby where you can stop by the fishing village, restored church, community hall, a school from the 1920s and stores.

You are sure to not be bored here with the abundance of activities offered such as tennis courts, beaches, picnic areas, boat rentals, nature trails, fishing and golf.

You can pick your campsite based on what you prefer! They have the basic campsite, the electrical campsite and the campsite with electrical and water. Depending on the type of weekend you’re hoping for, they make it nice and easy to find your dream camping weekend.

7. LILAC RESORT

The Lilac Resort is a perfect place if you’re looking for traditional camping or if you’re more interested in a “glamping” experience. They have a variety of different campsite options for you to take your pick of, while also having lodging accommodations, which are little cottages you can rent, rather than pitching a tent.

This campground truly lives up to its resort name as it has more amenities than most campgrounds that you come across like wifi, entertainment, hot tubs and more.

This campground is perfect for whoever is looking for a good time. If you’re coming as a family, or even as a group of adults who love a good thrill, you have to be sure to check out the waterpark. The park has six waterslides, two pools and four hot tubs. If the waterpark hasn’t already sold you, then maybe the other activities this resort offers will. There are three beach volleyball courts, a soccer field, playgrounds, basketball courts, baseball diamonds and more for you to enjoy during your stay.

8. NUTIMIK LAKE CAMPGROUND

The last campground we have to recommend to you is Nutimik Lake Campground located in Whiteshell Provincial Park. When you visit this place, you have the opportunity to learn about nature and culture through the various programs offered including the Petroforms and the Whiteshell Natural History Museum.

You can also take part in other camping activities such as hiking, biking, boating, fishing and tennis which are offered right on the campground. Enjoy your time at the beach or have a picnic – the options are endless.

The campsites are much like the other places we suggested previously in the article. Choose from basic, water or electrical sites. Whatever makes you most comfortable this campsite is sure to provide.
